Fundraising event for metabolic disorders in The Netherlands
In the Netherlands, metabolic diseases are the deadliest diseases among children: 1 in 4 does not live past the age of 18. This week, the Netherlands will hopefully take massive action for children with metabolic diseases through NPO 3FM Serious Request, a multi-day, multimedia fundraising event for METAKIDS, a dutch foundation raising funds for research on metabolic diseases. SIMPATHIC’s coordinator Clara van Karnebeek participates in the daily TV talk show to raise funding for metabolic disorders.
Face-to-Face meeting in Düsseldorf
On 2 and 3 December 2024, the second SIMPATHIC F2F meeting was held in Düsseldorf, hosted by Prof. Dr. Alessandro Prigione from the Heinrich Heine University. Over 50 researchers, clinicians and partnering stakeholders discussed working progress and future plans with the ultimate goal to accelerate drug repurposing for rare diseases.

Repurpolis game
During the SIMPATHIC meeting, all participants played the REPURPOLIS game that reflects the challenges in drug repurposing. This game was developed under the leadership of EATRIS. The game was introduced by the Dr. Rosan Kreeftmeijer-Vegter, DVM, PhD. With five groups, we first designed the pathway for a specific drug and then moved on this pathway, facing successes and disappointments. Like in the real world, some groups were successful in obtaining market authorization, some were not. Want to play the REPORPOLIS game yourself?
